WorthPointe advisors John Chapman and Matt Addington — both fathers of three — talk about the need to educate children about money in a new video. The discussion was spurred by a recent Twitter post from Kyng Kyren, Can’t Be No Sucka Wit Ya Money, which shows him talking with his young daughter about things like assets and liabilities.

Acknowledging the importance of setting a good example, since children are watching, John and Matt recommend finding simple teachable moments early, and gradually working toward more complex concepts, like compound interest. Other topics they discuss include allowance versus commission, creating simple budgets to introduce the concepts of giving and saving, and starting with the end in mind — preparing kids for being savvy with money as adults.
